What is EVRI?
The Electric Vehicle Research Institute (EVRI) was formed in early 1993 within the College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma in order to provide a platform for the ongoing research in zero emissions electric vehicle technology. This center of research excellence is presently housed in the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering. The institute's research includes the development of a wide variety of EV technologies from concept electric passenger cars, to solar, and the high speed, high performance Indy formula cars. The institute's goal is to place a commercially successful zero emissions vehicle on the road that is economical for the public to purchase, has extended range, can be charged in a short period of time, and exhibits the performance and comforts of its gasoline counterparts. In order to achieve this goal a number of very successful demonstration projects have been completed, and are ongoing at the Institute in conjunction with its coalition partners. These projects include the Formula Lightning Race Car, the Sportech high performance electric sport coupe, the Spirit III Solar car, the Sooner Spirit Goodyear Blimp, the Bevo Blender Battlebot, and the demonstration passenger sedan and pickup truck with extended range, higher top speeds, implemented quick charging techniques, advanced battery design, and on board energy management technology.
The Institute is host to the Central Electric Vehicle Coalition. The Coalition is a multi-state group of utilities, electric vehicle equipment providers, universities, and military and government entities that share similar goals as the Institute. These individual groups have joined together to form the critical mass needed to make common EV goals happen.
EVRI now includes the EVRI Shop on south campus across from Lloyd Noble Arena. This is where the projects, of the Institute and its technology partners, are engineered. The Institute welcomes friends and supporters of the COE and the University of Oklahoma to come and see the facility and see the technology. More information on EVRI or CEVC by contacting the Institute's director, Dr. John E. Fagan, in the College of Engineering.

The Electric Vehicle Research Institute is a non-profit organization with a competitive advantage through the understanding and development of electric vehicle technology, while actively pursuing the commercialization of electric vehicles.
